I would like to : Typical SuperInternet Residential NGNBN Broadband Speeds: Measurements and Methodologies

SuperInternet currently offers two Residential NGNBN plans. Both Plans offer the same Access rate and performance caracteristics. The difference in the plans comes down to the Features and value added services that can be added to the premium plan Such as Static IPv4 addresses to run home based servers and other applications that can benefit from bidirectional reachability of public addresses and IPv6 native networking to the home.

The speeds listed in the tables shown below are typical of the speeds that a residential end-user can expect to experience assuming the factors listed in the section at the bottom of this page entitled:"Other Factors that impact the performance of any broadband Internet service" have been taken into account.

* SuperInternet does not employ transparent proxies to artificially increase the speed of popular site page load times. The above test results are real measurements from the residential end user homes to the actual DNS resolved destinations of the web sites listed in tables 1 and 2.

* Our usage of the truncated mean is defined by the following parameters; for the sites listed in the tables above we remove the best test result and the worst test result for each site tested prior to averaging the remaining test results for that site to determine the truncated mean results shown in the tables above.

For reference on the topic of truncated mean please see the following site:

* The above data is accurate as of July 1st 2012.

Test equipment, Sample Size and Methodologies

SuperInternet in association with the good people from SamKnows.com obtained 5 test probes for our own use to utilize in our test sampling. These platforms consist of a TP-link Model # TL-WR1043ND device that has been reprogramed to act as a consumer end user machine. These probe devices run a customized set of tests 24hrs a day against the above listed sites in tables 1 and 2. These probe are placed at 5 different locations around the Island to get a distributed view of the performance reached through our NGNBN RSP network.

There are several factors that are outside of our control such as power outages, end users switching of the probes during the 90 day collection period to ensure that our sample sizes are consistent, during each 90 day sampling cycle that we collect performance data to be utilized we will be including a minimum of 45 days of data for at least 4 of the 5 probes that are running in the field.

For more detailed information about the probe software on the systems utilized and the various tests performed please see the link below provided by Samknows.com:

If you wish to sign up for the separate ongoing test project that has been commissioned by the IDA to analyze broadband performance in Singapore through SameKnows.com please see the following link to sign up:
http://www.samknows.com.sg/

* The IDA sponsored Project that the www.samknows .com.sg link takes you to is in no way affiliated with SuperInternet and the data collected is solely the property of the IDA of Singapore and SuperInternet as a registered RSP in Singapore has no visibility into the testing locations or the individual results that are achieved from those users under test.

The tests performed by SuperInternet are based on our 100Mbps Basic Residential Service plan, a 100Mbps fiber broadband connection using the nationwide NGNBN infrastructure maintained by Nucleus Connect and Opennet here in Singapore. The 5 test clients are placed in residential subscribers homes the tests are performed 24hrs a day when ever the test client detects that the consumer is not actively utilizing the link by being placed in front of the end users computer systems.

Other Factors that impact the performance of any broadband Internet service

Many factors can have an affect on the download/uploading performance that you experience when surfing the Internet. Listed below are some of these factors:

  • The consumer's computer's performance and configuration
  • The capabilities and configuration of your home router and or home Wi-Fi networks
  • The location and configuration of the remote server/service you are trying to access outside of SuperInternet's network
  • The number of users sharing the same home network
  • The web servers speed and load (i.e. How fast the web server can serve data and how many people are accessing it at point in time.)
  • The Speed of the link connecting the Site you are surfing's uplink to the Internet
  • The uncertainty of Internet traffic all over the world at any given time
  • Congestion on the links from our upstream Internet transit service provider to the rest of the worlds sites on the Global Internet
